Today I’m going to tell you about a mouthwatering Greek dessert BAKHLAWA or BAKLAVA , my favourite as well.
Total preparation time :
Not more than 1 hr 30 min
For Sugar Syrup
1 cups sugar
1 cup of water
2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 stick cinnamon
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup of finely chopped walnuts,
1/4 cup of finely chopped pistachios,
1/4 cup of finely chopped almonds,
1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder,
1/2 cup of Khoya
( in traditional Greek Bakhlawa they don’t use khoya )
phyllo pastry sheets
(as per your requirement)
melted unsalted butter for brushing phyllo pastry sheets /Fillo dough
For Garnishing :
finely crushed pistachios ( optional )
Preheat the oven to 350F (180C).
Take 2 sheets of the phyllo. Lay them on the surface and brush very lightly or dab with butter from the edges inward .
Sprinkle grounded nuts and khoya mixture on the sheet .
Roll the first layer with roller (not to tight, not to loose)
Place the pastry roll in the greesed glass pan.
Bake for 45-50 minutes until the top of pastry become evenly golden and crisp.
allow it to cool for 30 minutes. Then pour the cool sugar syrup on it,
And finally my favourite BAKHLAWA /BAKLAVA is ready to serve.
